In Rio, Ipanema and Copacabana are crowded; neighborhood beaches keep a more local rhythm. Travel light, and do not bury your phone under a towel and forget it. Midday sun is hard—umbrella rentals are common.
In Bahia the sea often feels warmer and music closer. Respect waves; read flags and lifeguard warnings. The beach is shared public space.
